MONSOON IN AGRICULTURAL PROVERBS IN EASTERN U.P.

Tripathi RPM., De D. and Choubey PN.

Knowledge of traditional agriculture is with the million of our farmers who are the practitioners. They are living authorities of traditional agricultural practices and the repositories of our traditional wisdom. The knowledge of agriculture is also propagated in many forms such as folk songs, rituals, proverbs, riddles and several other performing traditions by which art of cultivation is propagated over successive generation. Besides, there are also scholarly texts on Indian agriculture. Much of this existing knowledge of traditional agriculture has not been consolidated and put together. No systematic work has been done in bringing this knowledge to light. A great deal of work needs to be done in this area. This knowledge of traditional agriculture needs to be not just documented but has to be encouraged and helped also to take its rightful place in the context of modern knowledge.
The scientific rationality of these proverbs may established for proper dissemination and publicity through extension network to ultimate users.
