Water relations in groundnut
- Good yield with about 60 cm rainfall.
- Fair yields with well distributed 37 to 50 cm of rainfall during the crop period.
- For summer crop – 12.5 to 17.5 cm during the fortnight after sowing and 37 to 60 cm during the growth of the crop.
- Well-distributed rainfall ensures normal growth and development of the pods.
- Rains at sowing help in good plant stand.
- Moisture stress during vegetative period delays flowering, pod setting and results in low yields.
- High atmospheric humidity stimulates greater rates of flowering, resulting in increased peg setting.
- Needs dry conditions at harvesting.
