Water relations in groundnut

  • Good yield with about 60 cm rainfall.
  • Fair yields with well distributed 37 to 50 cm of rainfall during the crop period.
  • For summer crop – 12.5 to 17.5 cm during the fortnight after sowing and 37 to 60 cm during the growth of the crop.
  • Well-distributed rainfall ensures normal growth and development of the pods.
  • Rains at sowing help in good plant stand.
  • Moisture stress during vegetative period delays flowering, pod setting and results in low yields.
  • High atmospheric humidity stimulates greater rates of flowering, resulting in increased peg setting.
  • Needs dry conditions at harvesting.
