As per the price forecasts done by the Domestic and Export Market Intelligence Cell, Department of Agribusiness Management, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad for Yellow Soyabean, this year the prices of Yellow Soyabean in Bailhongal market is expected to range between Rs. 4000- 4500 per quintal during September, October and November months this year. The twenty years monthly modal price data of Yellow Soyabean from Bailhongal regulated market was collected and analyzed employing rigorous time series models and the prices for Yellow Soyabean for Bailhongal market for the months of September, October and November 2012 were forecasted. The opinions of experienced traders of the crop in the market, agricultural scientists and progressive farmers of the region with regard to the prices that would prevail at harvest were collected to fine tune the forecast prices. The prices in other major markets for the crop were also collected and government policies with regard tomarketing of yellow Soyabean were considered to come up with accurate price forecasts.

Monsoon was very much delayed this year and hence expected arrivals may not be there in the markets. Hence, rise in price expected this year as compared to same months in the previous years. According to price forecasts and opinions of traders and suggestions of the experienced persons, the prices of yellow soybean would be around Rs. 4000- 4500/- per quintal in the months of September, October and November in Bailhongal market. The farmers are advised to sell their produce immediately after harvest as storage of the produce will not have any price incentive for future months. Further more, the storage may lead to loss of quality during storage and un-necessary cost of storage to be incurred. Well dried, cleaned and bold seeded grains fetch higher prices in these markets. Hence, farmers are advised to keep these things in mind while preparing the product to the market.
