Presentation on vKVK

The vKVK demonstration was conducted by Mr. Jeetendra Singh of IIT-Kanpur. He focused on the basic features of the vKVK (virtual Krishi Vigyan Kendra) platform. vKVK is a platform that connects KVKs with farmers through internet and mobile technology. It has SMS and Voice messages facility which facilitates effective and efficient functioning of KVKs as an agro-advisory service provider. He demonstrated the method of sending messages to the progressive and general farmers. It is a platform that provides facilities like sending messages i.e. text messages and voice messages directly to the productive and general category farmers for the services which includes sending advisory, alert and private messages. The messages are created according to zone, and then they are forwarded to the farmers of that particular zone. This platform is created with view to help farmers and guide them to follow the proper cropping system, irrigation system, and the precautions to be taken if any disease spread, insect damage, sudden changes in climatic conditions like drought, flood etc is forecasted.

Suggestions and Feedbacks:

  • Provide links to market price data on agricultural goods on real time basis.
  • Provide attachment option in the success story section.
  • Provide attachment option in the Private Message section.
  • Allow uploading of pictures of higher sizes in the profile picture.

  • To include Video Chat facility in the vKVK platform
  • Voice SMS - If the farmer misses the call, there should be some arrangement, so that the voice call is saved and farmer can listen to it afterwards.
  • To provide Toll free Numbers to the farmers so that they can call to the scientists directly from the field. The number provided should never change.
  • Time bound messages for voice mail- Time should be fixed in the morning and evening to send the voice mail messages.
