Sardar Krushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University

ABOUT US:  Sardar Krushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University (http://www.sdau.edu.in) is the credit of Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU). The university is known for first in productivity of Mustard, Castor, Cotton, Potato & Cumin. Second in productivity of Bajra and third in productivity of Guar and Gram.

EDUCATION/ACADEMICS: The University possesses Agriculture Faculty, Veterinary Science Faculty, Home Science Faculty, Horticulture Faculty, Dairy Science Faculty and Agribusiness Management Faculty. The University is a comprehensive educational package for nurturing excellence in professional education and production of human resource in agriculture and allied fields for nation building through agricultural and rural development. Under this package three faculties are operational. The operational faculties are:  Agriculture Faculty, Veterinary Science Faculty, and Home Science Faculty.

RESEARCH: The Research work co-ordinates location specific, strategic and anticipatory research on mandated crops and systems of agriculture to generate valuable data, technologies and tools to improve production /productivity, together with value addition of farm produce. There are multidisciplinary research programmes focusing on crop/livestock improvement, natural resource and input management, seed/sapling production, post harvest technology. The research work revolves around Identification of niche crops and farming systems, Quality seed and seedling production of field and vegetable crops, Diagnostic and Agri-clinic facilities for diseases and pests management, Organic farming, Establishment of Bee keeping, Sericulture, Mushroom culture, Date palm, Vermi compost, Blue green algae & High tech green house facilities, providing Veterinary clinical facilities, Genetic improvement of Mehsani and Banni Buffalo, Kankrej cattle, Patanwari sheep,  Development of pre and post harvest processing technologies for value addition, Soil and water resource conservation and management, Water shed development and management for sustainable agricultural development and development of technologies for sustainable & economic utilization of non conventional energy resources

EXTENSION: The Directorate of Extension Education shoulders the responsibility of dissemination of the findings of research and technical information through ATIC, KVKs, Farmers Training Centers, SSK and different Print and Electronic medias. The KVKs of Khedbrahma and Deesa are responsible for conducting on farm testing for identification of technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use systems. Organizing training to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis, short and long term vocational training courses in agricultural and allied vocations for the farmers and rural youths with emphasis on learning by doing or higher production on farms and generating self employment. Organize front-line demonstrations on various crops to generate production data and feedback information.

      Sardar Smruti Kendra (SSK): is responsible for establishing and maintaining agricultural museum, to establish information center, to diffuse latest technology among farmers, to provide on campus as well as off campus training to the farmers in the field of agriculture and its related field, to prepare and provide farm literature to the farmers.

 Training and Visit Scheme (T & V Scheme):  To organize the kharif/rabi preseason workshops, hi-monthly workshops, short duration and specialized training programmes for officers of Department of agriculture and horticulture, to attend and advice to the farmers in khedut shibir/sabha /night meet organized by dept. of agriculture/cooperative society/company etc., to organize the diagnosis team of agril.scientists and to visit in various districts of  North-Gujarat in kharif/rabi season to know and solve the farmers problems with a view to get feedback for future research programmes,  advice to the farmer/farmers directly on the spot (field level) as and when needed,  to give the guidance to the district level officers in planning of cropping area/pattern and other technical programmes.

 

Agricultural Technology Information Center (ATIC): ATIC is a single window delivery system for the advice, feed back and making available the products and species of the institution to the farmers and other interested groups for fool proof dissemination of innovations and technologies. Improved seed of pulses (blackgram, cowpea, greengram & clusterbean), oilseeds (castor, sesame & mustard), cereals (bajra) and grafts (Mango & sapota) are made available to the farmers.  On spot advice and literature is the other hallmark of ATIC.

 

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA): ATMA is a district level body created under the ITD (Innovations in Technology Dissemination) component for pilot testing of Agricultural extension reforms. This is an autonomous institution with participation of all the key stakeholders in the district involved in agricultural activities for sustainable agricultural development. One of the first tasks of ATMA is to facilitate the preparation of Strategic Research and Extension (SREP) plan of the district.
