Root Rots
Causal Organism: Rhizoctonia solani
- Cause considerable damage when the crop is sown early.
Symptoms:
- Roots and hypocotyls of young plants show small, elongated, sunken, reddish-brown lesions on the. Later symptoms include yellowing of the lower-most leaves, followed by wilting.

Control
- Avoid early sowing in badly infested areas.
- Seed treatment with Thiram or Captan @ 3 g/kg of seed.
- In the initial stages of the symptom, spraying of the crop with 0.2% Captan or Difolatan check the advancement of the disease.
- Deep summer ploughing to expose the soil to high temperature which kills the fungus.
- Soil drenching with 0.1% Brassicol or 0.2% Dithane M-45 + 0.1 % Benlate or 0.3 % Difolatan.
