Red Spider Mite in Groundnut

Red spider mites occasionally cause damage to groundnut. Semi spreading types of groundnut are more infested by mites than the bunchy types.

 Appearance: Red colored oval shaped minute insects

 

  Tetranychus cinnabarinus

  Tetranychidae: Acarina

  Kannada Name: Mite nusi

Life Cycle:

Adults lay eggs on the underside of the leaves.The life cycle is completed in 15 days.

Nature of damage: 

Nymphs and adults suck sap from the underside of the leaves.

Damage symptoms:

  • Whitish leaves and fine webbing appear, mainly on the underside of the leaves.
  • Ultimately the plant withers and dies.
