Rainfed   rice - based cropping system

Rainfed  rice growing area are cultivated in various ways , using complex cropping  system that change from place to place and year to year normally , growing a single crop in not adequate to achieve desired goal in uncertain and fluctuating climate . Various cropping system such as mixed, relay or sequence cropping suiting to different agro-climatic zones have been identified to boost and stabilize productivity . Good weather prevails in the winter season in eastern India and it is preferable to invest more in different crops by adopting new and improved technologies. There have been greater increases in the area under winter crops, particularly   in rainfed lowland, which offer considerable scope for improving the livelihood of rice farmers.
