First and foremost for growing organic rice is, you need to consider soil fertility status vis a vis organic matter and organic carbon content.Second select varieties which are not high yielding and less reponding to fertiliser application.It is suggested to grow traditional locally adapted varieties known in the area.Availability of good quantity of FYM, Green Leaf Manure should also be considered.You also need to consider whether you are growing for home consumption or for the market so as to match the cost and returns.
