One day training of research scholars at GBPUAT on Agropedia

Inauguram session


One day training programme on use of ICT-mediated extension technologies-Agropedia was organized on 19th February, 2010 for the Research Scholars at GBPUAT, Pantnagar. The training programme was jointly organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, Pantnagar and Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Four experts from IIT, Kanpur: Dr. Vimlesh Yadav, Dr. Sharwan, Mr. Deepak and Mr. Jaiveer were the main trainers and from GBPUAT, Pantnagar team : Dr. Dipali T. Pandey, Dr. Kanchan Nainwal, Dr. G.P.Singh, Dr. Akansha Gupta and Ms. Kiran Yadav were the co-trainers.there were total 53 research scholars from different streams like Agricultural Extension and Communication, Agronomy, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Soil Science, Agro meterology, Vegetable Science, Home Science, Food Technology, Fisheries Science, Bio-Chemistry, Micro-Biology etc. The training was started by the inaugural speech by the PI, Dr. Y.P.S.Dabas. Dr. Dabas has briefed out about what is the NAIP project all about and the purpose of the training. Then the formal training was started with a small presentation on Agropedia. In the later part of the forenoon session Dr. Sharwan has explained and demonstrate about the concept map. For making the sessions more participatory some of the students were asked to register themselves on to Agropedia. Some students were already the registered user of Agropedia so they were asked to share their experiences about the portal.

The afternoon session was mainly on hands on/practice session. The session was started around 2:15 PM. Every student was provided with a separate computer system. First they were requested to register themselves on to Agropedia as well as on aAQUA. They explored almost all the features of Agropedia. Thereafter, they were asked to write a blog entry on the experiences of the ongoing training. Almost all the students have done their jobs.

Then all the students were divided into four groups and those groups were assigned a task to make a concept map of Potato. The broad topics viz. Production Technology, Protection Technology and Post Harvest Technology were given to them. Experts helped them as and when need arises and the groups were come up with very good concept maps.

The scholars showed great enthusiasm and interest. At the end of the day Dr. Dabas asked about their experiences about the training and portal and requested them to participate actively. Training ends with a group photo session.
