Kerala farmers to receive market tips on mobile
Published on: March 26, 2010 at 18:10THIRUVANANTHAPURAM (Commodity Online) : Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) has inked an agreement with Iffco Kisan Sanchar Ltd (IKSL) to provide farmers, actual price fluctuations in the market via mobile messages.
As per the deal, KAU’s Agricultural Market Intelligence Centre will provide up-to-date market information’s and price fluctuations to farmers via mobile SMS’s using “Green” mobile network of Iffco Kisan Sanchar Ltd.
IKSL, an Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (Iffco) venture, in technical collaboration with Bharti Airtel, will provide voice messages to farmers with Green SIM card, which is freely available to farmers in Kerala.
The farmers also have the choice to call back to hear the message again free of cost.
Agricultural Market Intelligence Centre, which was known for its accurate forecasts on market updates, especially on coconut, pepper and cardamom has been working from the Horticultural College of the Kerala Agricultural University.
