S.N: Bactrocera dorsalis (Tephritidae: Diptera)
- Serious and regular pest affects export potential of mango
- Infestation starts from fruit setting stage (April-May)
- Serious in storage condition also
Appearance:
- Adult light brown with transparent wings
- Maggots are white and jumping in nature
Biology:
- Banana shaped white eggs in batches (2-11)are inserted into the fruit with the help of ovipositor
- Maggots drop to ground or drop along with rotten fruit and pupate in soil
- Pupation in the soil
Life Cycle:IP- 1-2 days; LP- 15-20 days; PP- 6-8 days
Nature of Damage:
- Maggots feed in pulp from inside
Damage symptoms:
- Rotting and premature dropping of fruits
