Hetero-cyclic nitrogen compound Chemicals for Disease Control

Hetero-cyclic nitrogen compound are used as foliage protectants and eradicants of fruits and vegetables. Glyodin and captan are the two important fungicides of this group.

1. Captan: Captan is sold under different names like capton 50W, 75W, orthocide dust, essofungicide 406, vancide 89. It is effective for seed treatment for seedling diseases of vegetables, cotton etc, smuts, and wheat bunt. It is also used as spray fungicide against tobacco cercospora leaf spot, downy mildew and powdery mildew of grapevines, apple scab, brown rot of stone fruits and mango anthracnose.

2. Difoltan: Difoltan has properties similar to cap tan. It is a good fungicide for the control of early and late blight of potatoes and tomatoes.

3. Folpet: Folpet is eftective against Sphaerotheca pannosa. It is sold under the trade names of phaltan, orthophaltan etc. Wettable powder and dust are applied for foliage diseases of fruits, lawns and ornamentals.
