I have recently visited Almora district where I have seen smoke and fire. Chirpine is common vegetation in hill region. Leaves of chirpine not only makes soil acidic but also catches fire easily during summer, the main cause of forest fire in hills. There is also a practice to burn these dry chirpine leaves so that new plants germinate (fodder purpose) in absence of pine leaves cover. What could be remedy to manage these chirpine leaves in hill region?
