Cultivation practices of Paddy

Wet System of Cultivation

  • Situation - Low land / flooded / submerged
  • Ploughing - 3 to 4 times with an interval of about four days (country plough or mould board plough or by tiller/tractors) with 5-7 cm of standing water.
  • Fertilizers - inorganic and organic.

Advantages over dry cultivation

  • The puddling operation buries all weeds
  • multiple cropping is possible
  • more assured plant population
  • Increased availability of iron and phosphorus and nitrogen is conserved,
  • Scope for extended root system
  • Reduced infiltration rate and thus  increases the water retaining capacity of soil
  • Easy transplanting.
