CAULIFLOWER 

Package of practices ( for  irrigated ecosystem )

Crop variety:  Early kunwari , Pant gobhi 3, Pusa dipali, Pusa kataki ,  Pusa hybrid 2 , Pusa himjyoti, Pusa synthetic,Pusasnoball 1,

Land preparation: The sandy loam to clayey loam soils which are well drained and rich in nutrients fairly deep loam soils are ideal for growing cauliflower. soil pH5.5-6.5.

Cultivation: Raising of nursery the width of the bed-60 cm,15 cm high, with7-8 cm spacing of seed.Mixed FYM @ 10 kg/m2 and seed treatment with Captan @ 3 g/kg seed.

Seed rate- 450-700g/ha. 

TransplantingThe seedling are ready 3-6 weeks after sowing.

Manures / fertilizers:   FYM – 40-70 tonnes /ha. NPK – 150:60:50 kg/ha

Aftercare: Blanching – to protect the curd from  direct sun light. Handweeding – should be done few days after first irrigation by hoe or khurpi. Herbicides – preplanting application of Pendimethalin (Stomp) or Fluchloralin (Basalin) @ 2.0-3.0 kg/ha.

Irrigation method: Furrow method, 5-6 irrigation are required. First- just after planting, then growth and curd formation stage.

Plant protection: Cauliflower suffers from a number of physiological disorders like Reciness, Fuzziness, Blindness, Buttoning, Browning, Whiptail etc..

Control:  The planting of resistant and tolerant varieties, balanced use of fertilizer , proper seed treatment and  planting at optimum time.

Harvesting: When curd are compact attain proper size and retain original colour. The plant is cut well below the curd with sharp cutting knife , sickal or khurpi.

Yield: 6-10 t/ha( early) from 25 to 30 t / ha late varieties.
