Feed on the flowers and greatly reduce the number of pods that are set. Description
- Adults (25 mm) (Figure) have very obvious black and red coloration.
- Eggs are usually laid in the soil.
- Larvae feed on the insects in the soil.
Control
- Manually picking them by hand (Figure) or collecting them with an insect net and crushing them without touching them with hand.
- Most insecticides are not very effective. Synthetic pyrethroids, cypermethrin @ 1ml/litre of water work reasonably well.
