Biological Control of Chickpea wilt

Biological Control of Chickpea wilt

Chickpea wilt is most prevalent in heavy soil and poorly drained low land soil. It is mainly caused by Fusarium oxysporum.

Trichoderma is a very effective biological mean for the management of this disease. It is a free-living fungus which is common in soil and root ecosystems. It reduces growth, survival or infections caused by pathogens by different mechanisms like competition, antibiosis, mycoparasitism, hyphal interactions, and enzyme secretion.

Turn the mixture in every 3-4 days interval and then broadcast in the field. or
  • Apply 5 Kg of Trichoderma powder per hector after turning of sunhemp or dhaincha into the soil for green manuring.
  • Treat the seed with 6 - 10 g of Trichoderma powder per Kg of seed before sowing. Don't mix jaggery etc. for adhering the powder on seed rather use water as pre soaking. Dry the treated seeds in shed.
