Ug99 is most destructive race of wheat stem rust fungus Puccinia graminis tritici. It was first detected in 1999 from Uganda so the name Ug99 has given, that infected wheat crop in this region subsequently, it has quickly spread in the neighbouring countries like Kenya and Ethiopea and has crossed the red sea. Not only it spread quicly, but also generated newer variants from in African cotenant.
