Bacterial blight
Causal organism: Xanthomonas oryzae cv. Oryzal
- High temperature upto 30°C favours the disease development while it subsides at temperature 20°C.
- Lesions enlarged and leave dies faster at higher temperature.
- High rates of nitrogen fertilizer favour the incidence of disease.
- Phosphorus and potassium deficiency and excess silica and magnesium also increase disease incidence.
Management
- Use seed from disease free crop.
- Drain away the water from fields as frequently as possible.
- Grow tolerant varieties such as IR-20, IR-54, IR-64, Pusa2-21, Ajaya, Asha and Daya.
