 Agropedia workshop on Digital knowledge repository

The Knowledge Sharing and Innovation unit of ICRISAT, Hyderabad conducted a two days NAIP Workshop on Development of Digital Knowledge Repositories during 24-25 January, 2013 in collaboration with IIT, Kanpur. The workshop was conducted mainly for the ICAR Oilseed research institutes of India. Total 19 scientists/senior scientists participated in the workshop from Directorate of Groundnut Research-Junagadh, Indian Institute of Spices Research-Kerala, Directorate of Soybean Research-Indore, Indian Institute of Pulse Research-Kanpur, PC Unit (Small Millets)-Bangalore, Directorate of Oil Palm Research, CICR-Nagpur, Directorate of Oilseeds Research-Hyderabad, Project Directorate of Poultry-Hyderabad, National Institute of Animal Nutrition & Physiology-Bangalore, Directorate of Sorghum Research-Hyderabad

 

 Dr N. T. Yaduraju, coordinator of this workshop proposed the welcome address to the participants and briefed about the role of ICT in the field of agriculture. He discussed Agropedia as a project and also about its delivery mechanism of vKVK to the farmers.  

Dr Varaprasad, the chief guest shared his experiences with the house. Dr Gileep Kumar Guntuku, Global Leader, also addressed the participants.

 

Dr T V Prabhakar, Professor Computer science at IIT-Kanpur and PI of the project delivered a detailed talk on Agropedia and its need to the present perspective. The talk was followed by a live demo of Agropedia by Dr Kiran Yadav and hands on training on Agropedia and concept map facilitated by Ms Tulika Sharma, IIT-K. Day two was completely dedicated to the feedback and work plan for the next one year. The major outcomes were to develop a dedicated knowledge repository for oilseed crops, delivery mechanism and a social networking website. The oilseed research institutes will develop the KMs and host the respective content to the Agropedia. The institutes will take care of updating the content time to time. ICRISAT and IIT-Kanpur will conduct workshops to assist the scientists in finalizing the KMs and hosting the content to the Agropedia platform. Ms Niharika, Prerna and Mr Bhanu helped participants in hands on session.

 

 All the scientist participants were taken for a field visit to ICRISAT. Finally the workshop ended with the vote of thanks from Dr N. T. Yaduraju.
