Ring planting (90x45 cm) system increased the crop yield up to 180 t/ha at IISR. In each ring (pit) about 22 three budded setts are placed horizontally in a circular manner. The crop under ring planting consists mainly of mother shoots which are thicker and heavier.

The duration of sugarcane crop in India ranges from10-18 months. A 12 months crop is most common. Time of planting is governed by weather conditions. Sugarcane requires about 25-320 C temperature for good germination. Spring  and autumn plantings are two important planting seasons.
