Rice Leaf folder (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guen.)

Posted in

The Young larvae feed on tender leaves without folding them .The older larvae fasten the longitudinal margin of leaf together with its sticky substance and the feed inside the fold by scraping green matter. The scraped leaves become membranous, turn white and than finally wither. Heavily infested crop has streaks on the leaves and appear whitish from a distance.

Gundy Bug (Leptocorisa acuta Fab.)

Posted in

The nymph and adult suck juice from the developing grain in the milky stage, causing incompletely filled panicles or chaffy grains. Black or brown spots appear around the holes made by the bugs on which sooty mould may develop.

Parasites: Gryan sp.

Rice Plant Hopper (Nelaparvata lugens Stal.)

Posted in

Both adult and nymph caused damage by sucking cell sap from the leaves which turn yellow. If the insect attacks during early stage of growth, the entire plant may dry up. Under the favurable conditions of high humidity ,optimum temperature, high nitrogen application and no wind, the population increases very rapidly and a hopper burn is observed various localities giving  a brownish hue to the entire countryside plot in the field.

Rodent

Posted in

Rodent attack starts from nursery till harvest and storage. In nursery rodent uproot crop and eat the seed, later on they cut down the plant. In vegetative phase damage starts when the plant form 3- 4 nodes and the damage continues in the reproductive phase till harvest.

Integrated technique to control Rats plan of operation is given below

Whorl Maggot (Hydrellia philippina Fer.)

Posted in

Whorl maggot attack in standing water. Typical damage is degenerated tissues along the inner margins of emerging leaves. As leaves expand, yellow damaged areas become conspicuously visible. Tillering is reduced and maturity may be delayed. Damage occurs from seedling through maximum tillering stages.

Management:

Mole Cricket (Scapteriscus borellia Giglio-Tos)

Posted in

Generally mole cricket infests dried paddy filed or rain-fed field. Both nymph and adult feed on root and shoot near at ground.

Management:

  • Soil application of Carbofuran 3G @ 10 kg/ ha.
  • Flooding avoids cricket infestation.
