I've replaced the table I posted a few days earlier with the full numbers from the Ag Min.

The Ministry of Agriculture has released the third advance estimates for 2009-10.



India's drought as climate 'tipping point'


An important report has been released by Allianz, a leading global financial service provider, and WWF, a leading global environmental NGO. Both do work (commercial and conservation respectively) in India. The report is titled: 'Major Tipping Points in the Earth’s Climate System and Consequences for the Insurance Sector'.

First indication of rain deficit impact on crop production

The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has made what sounds to me like a realistic forecast of crop production. Also, the Fourth Advance estimates have just been released (I will post them here as soon as I can). This is the PTI report which quotes CMIE:

FAO food price index heading upwards again

The FAO food price index for December 2009 shows that global food prices are on the ascent again. FAO's Food Price Index monitors and plots the price movements of a food basket composed of cereals, oilseeds, dairy, meat and sugar. The December rise is the fourth straight monthly rises. In its December Food Outlook report FAO said that "market conditions are different from those that triggered the food price crisis that started two years ago" but I think that's an anti-alarmist tack taken by FAO.
