Control measures:

Control measures of weed in wheat fields

Control measures

  1. The weeds can be controlled either manually or through the use of herbicides/weedicides. One hoeing after about a month would keep the weeds under control and provides aeration to the developing root. Closer planting and cross sowing was also found effective to reduce these weeds. Because wheat is grown on a very large acreage, it is not possible to control the weeds with manual labour
  2. Use of herbicides/weedicides

(A) Broad leaf weeds: Bathua, Satyanashi, Krishnneel, Gazari, Piazi etc.

Gujhia weevil- Insect/pest of wheat

Gujuia weevil

It attacks germinating seedlings.  As a result of heavy infestation plants die out.  Control measuring for this insect is same as for termites.

Control measures:

Use Aldrin 5% dust or BHC 10% dust at the rate of 20-25 kg/ha and mix it well  in the soil at  the time of last plouging before sowing.

Aphid- Insect of wheat

Aphids and jassids

These leaf sucking insects also damage the wheat crop resulting in discoloration of leaves.

Control measures:

Apply 0.5 litre Folithion or Thiodan or one litre Ekalux 25 EC in 800 litres of water per hectare.

Glume blotch- Fungal disease of wheat

Glume blotch
