Potato is sown in India in Kharif and Rabi seasons. Kharif produce is available in the market from August end to October, which accounts for 15 to 20% of annual production. From mid-December to mid-April Rabi produce is available in the market which accounts for 80 to 85%. Only, the rabi potato is stored for domestic as well as export markets. The major potato growing districts in Karnataka are Hassan (more than 41%), Chikmagalur, Belgaum, Dharwad, Bengaluru Rural and Kolar.

Monsoon to decide - Turmeric prices to hike or fall this harvest season

Turmeric is grown as a Kharif crop in India. The crop-harvesting season commences from January and continues till March. India is the leading producer, consumer and exporter of turmeric in the world. Turmeric is mainly used to flavour and colour foodstuffs and an ingredient in cosmetics and medicines. The production of turmeric is concentrated in the southern part of the country, mainly in the peninsular area.

Kharif Red Gram (Tur) to fetch around Rs. 9000 – 10,500 per quintal during harvest months 

Red gram (Tur) is grown throughout the tropical and subtropical countries. The major countries producing red gram are India, Myanmar, Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal, Dominican Republic, Congo, Bangladesh, Haiti, Panama etc. The major exporters of red gram are Myanmar, Dominican Republic and Malawi. However, India, Trinidad, Venezuela, Nepal and Mauritius are the major importers.

Ragi prices to be lower than MSP

          Finger millet, more commonly known as ragi, is a cereal widely grown in the African and Asian continents is used as a major substitute for rice among the diabetic patients and also the diet conscious people. It is one of the few cereals that needn’t be polished making it healthier than its counterparts. 

Maize prices to hover around MSP

Since the crop management requires low application of plant protection chemicals, banana is grouped under “Green Food”.
